Don't speed, 24 cameras will be watching you

If Need for Speed is your favorite, play it only on your computer, not in Amadavad streets. For, the traffic department is soon installing 24 speed radar cameras at four major spots in city and will catch in frame all vehicles exceeding the speed limits.

The cameras, that will also have night vision, will automatically click pictures of violators from the stretch. Hefty fines, suspensions of driving licenses are in store for those who disregard the speeding limits. "We analyzed traffic and accidents in city and found that most over-speeding and related cases were being reported from stretches of SG Highway and Narol SP ring road. Accordingly, the cameras will be installed at strategic spots on these roads," said Sudhir Desai, DCP of traffic.

The entire project will cost around Rs 1.5cr. Once the project is successful, more places in the city will have the same devices installed to control the over-speeding vehicles.
