In a case that is reminiscent of the infamous Aarushi Talwar murder case, parents of a boy have come under police scanner for his murder. The development comes over 20 days after Prince Rathod was found murdered in the bathroom of his home at Dholka in Ahmedabad district.

On June 12, Pareshkumar Rathod had filed a complaint with Dholka police stating his 12-year-old son Prince, a student of Class VI, was found dead, hanging in the bathroom of their house at Balaji Square.

However, police say there are discrepancies in Rathod’s statement. The post-mortem report too has thrown up several questions.

According to the complainant, both he and his wife left for work at 6am as per their daily routine. Prince usually left for school in an auto at 6.30 am. Rathod has said when they returned that evening, they found the main door ajar, and Prince hanging in the bathroom.

Police say it later emerged the boy never went to school on the day of the incident and he was murdered in the morning itself.

Prince’s mother, a 32-year-old, has been working with a pharmaceutical company in Bavla for the past four months. His father Paresh, 38, works as a peon in Intas Pharmaceuticals in Ahmedabad.

VM Dafda, inspector of Dholka police station, said, “We are probing every angle. CCTV footage shows entry and exit of only parents. We have conducted a DNA test on the parents for further investigation.”  The DNA test is to ascertain if Prince was actually the Rathods’ son.

What makes the parents suspects

Police statement

Paresh Rathod had stated in his police complaint that Prince was 12 years old
He had stated he found Prince hanging, with a dupatta around his neck
He had also said both he and his wife left the house together on the day of the incident, while their son was waiting for the school rickshaw.

Post-mortem report

The victim was 10 years old
He was not strangled with a dupatta, rather signs of struggle show he was strangulated with bare hands and he was later hanged using the dupatta.
CCTV footage and statement of watchman reveal the mother left first in an autorickshaw around 6.15am, while the father left 15 minutes later on his two-wheeler.
