In what could be a good news for the state which has already received surplus rainfall this monsoon, the depression which was lying over eastcentral and adjoining northeast Arabian sea off Gujarat coast has moved west-northwestwards and is likely to move towards Oman Coast during the next three days. The system which is located at a distance of 170 km west-southwest off Veraval is unlikely to hit the Gujarat coast.

The heavy rainfall warning, which was issued by the Met for places in and around South Gujarat and Saurashtra during the next 48 hours under the influence of the system, has been lowered to light to moderate showers. However, the sea conditions are expected to be rough with wind speeds of 45-55 km per hour gusting to 65 km per hour and fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea during the next two days.

The IMD bulletin provides, "The depression over eastcentral and adjoining northeast Arabian sea off Gujarat coast moved west-northwest with a speed of 15 kilometer per hour and lay centred, at 11:30 am on Sunday, around 170 km west-southwest of Veraval in Gujarat, 570 km south-southeast of Karachi in Pakistan, and 1170 km east-southeast of Muscat in Oman. It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 12 hours and into a cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards towards Oman coast during next 72 hours".

Meanwhile, 79 talukas in the state on Sunday received rainfall between 6 am and 8 pm. The highest rainfall of 54 mm was recorded in Waghai taluka of Dang district, followed by 51 mm in Palanpur taluka of Banaskantha, and 46 mm in Vadodara.

As far as the city is concerned, the weather office has predicted generally cloudy sky conditions with chances of light rainfall during the next 2-3 days. The maximum temperature during this period is likely to be around 32-33 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum temperature is expected to be around 25-26 degrees Celsius.
