A local court here extended the police remand of Narayan Sai by one more day. After investigations at Asaram’s ashrams in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Ludhiana and Agra, Surat police returned to the city on Wednesday. And, as Sai’s remand came to an end during the day, he was produced in court in the afternoon.
While seeking extension of his remand, government pleader Nayan Sukhadwala said Sai needs to be interrogated for 21 sim cards purchased by him from Delhi.
An accused can be sent to a maximum of 15 days in police remand by a court and with the period ending on Thursday, Sai will be remanded in judicial custody at Lajpore. He was taken for a check-up after court proceedings as he complained of throat infection. The police, meanwhile, have decided to bring Asaram to Surat for interrogation. The decision was taken after investigation revealed that Uday Sangani — who had given bribe to PSI Kumbhani — had met Asaram in Jodhpur jail.
Surat police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana said Asaram will be questioned about his role in the entire episode and whether he had provided any help to Sangani.
