Continuing his tirade against the UPA government at the Centre, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday indicated that corruption — which is a major issue faced by the country — would end after June 2014.

“Corruption is a big challenge, whether our PM can tackle it or not, you can. If you don’t believe me, then just wait till June next year,” said Modi, who was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Gujarat’s largest IT special economic zone (SEZ) Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Garima Park that has a seating capacity for 10,000 people.

He added that the Gujarat checkpost on the border with Maharashtra was earning Rs400 crore more per year than the one in the neighbouring state despite the fact that the same number of vehicles passed through both the checkposts.

“We have technological supervision over our check-posts and they do not have it. Government sitting in Gandhiangar can monitor the flow of vehicles and tax collected. So, the collection on our side is high. This has not been done by any chief minister but made possible by young IT professionals,” said Modi.

The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said exporting IT services and bringing in dollars was good for the country’s economy but the need of the hour was to use technology for the uplift of the poor.

“There is a myth that IT is only for the rich people. Technological intervention can change the lives of the poor and more and more technology can even be used to upgrade their lives,” said Modi.

Talking about the IT SEZ, the CM said whenever any development takes place in the IT sector of Gujarat, it pleases him. “There was a perception that Gujarat is far behind in soft skills, including English, because of which the IT sector could not see multifold growth. But TCS has finally broken that perception,” said Modi.
