Leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani said on Sunday that the Congress MLAs would corner the state government in the state assembly, and expose it in front of people. Dhanani made the comments after the three-day training workshop of the party's MLAs in Kheda.

"The Congress will form a people's government to expose the wrongdoings and corruption of the BJP's power government before the people," Dhanani said, while referring to his party's plans to form a shadow ministry to keep an eye on the government's functioning.

The party had organised the three-day workshop to train its MLAs, especially the first-timers, into parliamentary proceedings. The workshop saw senior party leaders, as well as experts from PRS Legislative Research and Jawaharlal Nehru Leadership Institute, addressing the participants.

The Gujarat Congress said in a release that the MLAs were familiarised with assembly rules, the different ways of raising questions in the House, various committees of the assembly and their functioning, among other aspects.

The workshop also covered topics such as the art of asking questions, rights of MLAs in the assembly and their duties, discussion on bills and other parliamentary procedures, among others.

Buoyed by its performance in the elections, when it won 77 seats, its best performance in more than 22 years, the Congress is gearing up to corner the BJP government, which has 99 MLAs, in the assembly. The Budget session of the assembly is slated to commence from February 19.
