Congress MLA raised issue of ragging of teenager in Adarsh residential school

The government replied that sufficient actions were ensured by authorities

Senior Congress MLA from Una Punja Vansh on Tuesday raised issue of ragging and physical assault over a teenage boy at Adarsh residential school in Rajula town of Amreli district. He and other opposition MLAs brought the motion of urgent matter of public interest for debate in house. The government replied that sufficient actions were ensured by authorities.

Vansh, under the rule-116 of assembly brought the motion for debate and said, "The student was beaten mercilessly and was threatened by other school mates. They put the allegation of theft of Rs. 500 over the boy from Koli(fisherman) community and assualted him badly so that his kidneys also were damaged. This is the case of ragging and government should ask the competant authorities to take the actions accordinlgy."

The minister for social justice and empowerment Ishwar Parmar, replying on the debate said that local authorities took sufficient actions. The minister also said that the accused students also were from the Koli community and that was not issue of communal rivalry. The minister also said that two of the 17 accused students were arrested by the police and 15 were acted as per juvenile justice act as those were minor.

The minister said, "The student did not inform any of the school staff but had left for the home with his parents. His uncle came to school on February 24 and said that he wanted to file suit against the students who beaten his nephew. The complaint was booked against accused persons and the security person was sacked from duty on the ground of irresponsible behaviour."

The minister also assured the house that all the Adarsh residential schools in state were run under the condusive atmosphere and students of these schools who come from deprived class also performed well in board examinations.

MINISTER SPEAK

Minister for social justice and empowerment Ishwar Parmar said on Tuesday that the student did not inform any of the school staff but had left for the home with his parents.
