The IT cell of the Congress is all set to boost  campaign for party candidates in all the 26 parliamentary constituency in Gujarat. The cell has set up an election war room in each Lok Sabha seat in the state for customised campaign on social media for the candidates.

The cell will use bulk SMSes, WhatsApp messages, voice calls, facebook, twitter, YouTube and other mediums for campaigning. The campaign will be done on behalf and in the name of Congress candidate.

All updates related to campaign schedule and issues raised during the campaign will be uploaded on the social media within a couple of hours of the campaign. The cell will also update voters about the candidates visit to their respective areas so that they can meet them and raise issues concerning them.

The election war rooms have been set up in the candidate’s office only. Around 50 workers of the Congress IT cell will work till the last day of campaigning. As many of these workers are professionals, they will work in shifts. “Our aim is to create an awareness about the national agenda of the party as well as expose development claims made by the state government,” said Rohan Gupta, president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) IT cell.

The cell will also take up local issues on the social media. “For example, we are going to raise the issue of Advani’s failure to utilise grants in the constituency as well as his absence from the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency,” said Gupta.

He wished to expand this model of campaigning through social media in all the 582 seats of the country.

When asked about the expenditure on the campaigning through social media, Gupta said that expenditure was not a big issue. The message and data package is bought by the candidates which does not cost much, he added.
