Congress councillors play games and gimmicks to claim the AMC crown

Reshuffling of the top official at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is due in June, and the race is gaining a momentum. There are many who are eyeing the seat and wielding thier clout in some way or the other.

Former leader of opposition Badruddin Shaikh played a gully cricket match last Sunday and drove a JCB machine to protest for not considering Chandola Lake under Sujalam Suflam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan 2018.

"AMC had excluded Chandola from its plan to deepen 12 lakes. It is the largest lake in the city. It can cater to the need for drinking water in the city," Shaikh said in a release to the media

Shaikh, along with Congress supporters and MLA Shailesh Parmar, also put up a symbolic show of digging of a lake. This is not the first time Shaikh wanted to hog the limelight. He rode a horse-cart to reach to the main office of AMC on May 3, and said he was forced to use the horse-cart due to skyrocketing price of petrol and diesel. Shaikh submitted a memorandum letter before the municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar regarding grievances of his ward.

Meanwhile, Jamalpur councillor Shahnwaj Shaikh also submitted a memorandum for issuing polluted water in his ward. Both the councillors claimed that people in their respective wards are suufering from various illness because of consuming polluted water. Interestingly, they are showing all concern just ahead of the announcement of the new leader of opposition.

It was only in last week that the Jamalpur councillor submitted a letter to the AMC, pleading to allow the street vendors to carry on their business at on Bhadra Plaza premises till Ramadam.

The existing leader of opposition had asked the top bosses at Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee to retain him for the next five years.

Meanwhile, there are many women candidates who are eligible. Rajshri Kesari, one of them, is trying to grab the seat from Chandkheda ward.
