The industrial body, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is optimist about the economic growth of the country. Though the recently released GDP figures are not encouraging, newly-elected office-bearers of the CII Gujarat council expect the economy to bounce back within six months to a year.

People are optimist, said new chairman of CII Gujarat state council and vice chairman & managing director of Voltamp Transformers Ltd, Kunjal Patel. “Irrespective of election results, the economy will bounce back.

People have started showing optimism. Sectors related to domestic consumption like food and others are expected to take an initiative towards recovery. Sectors like capital goods and others may follow after six months or a year,” said Patel.

“Recovery will be seen very soon. We are expecting that recruitment and hiring will begin at a faster pace within six months,” he said and added that, however, for the economy, implementation of GST and growth in FDI is a must. Along with Patel, managing director of Vadilal Industries Ltd, Devanshu Gandhi, has been elected as vice chairman of CII Gujarat council for 2014-15. The CII Gujarat’s theme for 2014-2015 is ‘Inclusive Gujarat – Growth Unlimited’. From April 1 onwards, corporate social responsibility (CSR) will most likely be mandatory for every company in the country. “We will not participate in every company’s CSR plans but we are all set to advise them. For this, CII Gujarat is also initiating a Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad for consulting & advising industries on effective CSR projects,” said Patel.

At present, CSR work is mostly done in education and healthcare. “Through the Centre of Excellence, we will also try to focus on skill development, women education, environment and others. However, it will totally depend on the entrepreneurs’ passion on CSR,” he said.

Patel also said that CII Gujarat shall work on skill development initiatives. Over 35 CII member companies have initiated industry responsive skill centres in Gujarat training over 9000 youth leading to gainful employment. “We are also planning to initiate a skill development centre in Bhavnagar which will be one of its kinds in Gujarat,” he said. It may be noted that CII has been appointed as National Partner for Vibrant Gujarat 2015 for the fourth time.
