A number of programmes would take place in Bharuch in the run-up to Gujarat Foundation Day on May 1, home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja said on Thursday.

Jadeja said that a laser show, torch march, literary events and other similar programmes would take place in Bharuch from April 28, in addition to ceremonies to mark dedication and foundation stone laying of various developmental projects. Rupani will also flag-off Gujarat Gaurav Yatra.

CM Vijay Rupani will lay the foundation stone of a Rs39.60 crore project to develop Kabirvad-Shukla Tirth as a tourist destination. A seven-day programme for tree plantation and cleaning of the Narmada river would be undertaken in association with eight voluntary organisations. Jadeja said that work on three ambitious projects will be started at the hands of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani to mark May 1.

“Under the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan 2018, nearly 8,000 lakes and ponds across the state would be deepened. Repair of 1,368 check dams / lakes, and revival of 330 km rivers in 33 districts would also be undertaken. Vijaybhai Rupani will perform shram daan at Kosamda lake in Ankleshwar to kick-off the project,” he informed.

Jadeja said the CM Apprenticeship Scheme, which aims to provide monthly assistance to youths undergoing skill development training, would also be launched the same day. Under the scheme, graduates would be provided monthly stipend of Rs3,000, diploma holders Rs2,000, and others Rs1,500.
