The BJP and Congress went into an ugly confrontation after several posters of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were found torn and soiled in Kalawad Road locality of Rajkot. The incident took place in the CM's own constituency, which has fuelled the spark in local politics.

In fact, CM Rupani's supporters have been running the campaign in the city on his behalf with the title, 'Rajkot Vijay Bhavah' meaning May BJP win in Rajkot in the polls. The Patel community-led organisation Sardar Patel Group held a march in Rajkot on the occasion of Sardar Patel's anniversary and some members of the group vandalised the posters of Rupani on Kalawad Road.

The CCTV footage of the incident also went viral on social media in a few minutes.

BJP leader from Rajkot Nitin Bharadwaj condemned the incident and blamed the Congress for inspiring several people from the back door. Bharadwaj said, "This is nothing but a task conceived by the Congress. They are in depression about the imminent loss in the Gujarat polls and so they are trying to pollute the atmosphere."

The Congress countered BJP's blame and MLA from Rajkot East Indranil Rajyaguru said, "Why would the Congress indulge in such a lowly act? None of the people who soiled Rupani's posters were from the party. They were common people and unhappy with the BJP rule and failure in administration. Their displeasure has come on the fore in form of the ire and it shows that the BJP will surely lose in the upcoming polls."

Rajyaguru also said that some of BJP members had torn his posters in Rajkot West Assembly constituency area the day before.

However, no party has filed a police complaint on the issue. SPG also did not take any responsibility for the act.
