Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that citizens in civic bodies would get all services online. He was addressing a gathering on Sunday at the National Smart City Summit in his hometown Rajkot. He also added that his government would try to increase the happiness index in cities.

Rupani inaugurated this event and said: "We have decided to strengthen the internal administration of civic bodies — make it more systematic and advanced. We have decided that all citizens should get all services from civic bodies online and we are proceeding in that direction. Soon, the services will be available online, so hardly any citizen would need to visit civic centres in future."

"Population density in urban areas has been increasing continuously and today 45 per cent of the total population in Gujarat lives in urban areas. Increasing urbanisation should not become a challenge and that is why we are putting stress on smart cities development. Our motto is where there is a citizen, service should reach and there should be well planning in place of chaos. Our government, therefore, is committed to increase the happiness index in cities," added the CM.

The Rajkot mayor, municipal commissioner, leading politicians and real estate developers also attended this event. The CM then visited the famous Alfred High School in the city where Mahatma Gandhi studied, and the school is named after him. Several developments are underway in the premises of the school.

The CM also inaugurated two different police stations and facilities of Rs 175 crore in Rajkot city in a day. Meanwhile, the local police got the information on bombs found in an industrial area in Rajkot when the CM was in the city. The police took the incident very seriously and a huge police force was deployed at the place. The police, however, found that the objects looked like bomb shells were not explosives. The chief minister also attended the religious function of Jain community in city in which famous monks also had remained present.
