In a bid to prevent thefts, robberies and house break-ins, Ahmedabad police have drawn up an elaborate plan this Diwali. As a result while the city will be busy bursting crackers and enjoying sweets this festive season, the 12,500-strong staff of Ahmedabad Police will be on its toes to ensure crime-free Diwali.

As part of this plan, police will specially look at the banks, jewellery shops, malls, angadia firms and other places where festive crowd gathers. CCTV surveillance will be supported by patrolling vans and Hawk Squad staff attached to each police station.

"Four Hawk Squad members will be deployed at each police station. Apart from this, there will be two PCR vans attached to each police station which will be patrolling in sensitive areas," said Balram Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Control Room.

Besides this, Quick Response Teams will also be deployed at five main areas of the city, he said. "During the festival, huge money transactions and gold-silver ornament buying happens, which the criminals are aware of and they will try to take advantage of the situation. We will ensure a safe and secure Diwali," he said.
