The office of the State's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) will rope in 50 lakh students to create awareness about the upcoming assembly elections and the need for ethical voting. Chief Electoral Officer BB Swain said they have prepared 50 lakh Sankalp Patras (Pledge Letters) which would be distributed among school students.

"The sankalp patra is of two pages. The students will take it home and take signatures of parents and other voters in his family and return it to the teacher, who will submit it to us. On another page of the letter, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), None Of The Above (NOTA), and importance of voting without any fear or favour, have been explained in detail. This page will remain at the students' home, and we believe it will inspire many to vote ethically," Swain said.

The election authorities have also started distribution of as many as 75 lakh pamphlets, which inform voters about VVPAT and NOTA.

"We are also making extensive use of social media for voter awareness. We have coined the slogan 'Gujarat Will Vote' which is being publicised using Youtube, Twitter and Facebook. Other posts are also being made to attract young voters. We have received over 15 lakh likes from social media users so far," he said.

ETPBS for service voters

Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System will be deployed for the very first time in Gujarat in the upcoming elections for service voters. The ETPBS enables members of armed forces and some government employees to cast his or her vote using an electronically received postal ballot. The voter would be required the download the ballot, fill it in, and send it back through postal service. "The system makes it easier and faster for the service voters to cast their votes, and result in higher voting," said officials.
