CBSE Class 10 results 2018: At 88.67%, eves outshine boys by 3.35%

Girls have yet again outshined boys in Class 10 board examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Girls showcased better results than boys by 3.35 per cent. Of the girls who appeared for CBSE Class 10 exam, 88.67 per cent of them cleared it successfully as against 85.32 per cent of the boys. The board has also witnessed a dip in overall pass percentage of Class 10 results. With the overall pass percentage at 86.70 per cent as against 90.95 per cent last year, the board has recorded a dip of 4.25 per cent.

Overall, a total of 13,1,493 students scored over 90 per cent whereas 27,476 students scored beyond 95 per cent. Of 3,760 differently-abled candidates who appeared, 3,480 (92.55 per cent) passed. A total of 153 students scored above 90 per cent and 21 students scored nearly 95 per cent.

Ajmer region — which covers Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, has featured in top 3 for highest region-wise pass percentage. While Thiruvananthapuram topped with 99.60 per cent, Chennai was at 97.37 per cent and Ajmer recorded 91.86 per cent.

In Ajmer, too, girls performed better than boys. A total of 94.62 per cent of girls passed as against 90.07 per cent of the boys. Whereas 15,128 students scored over 90 per cent and 2,611 students scored over 95 per cent in Ajmer.

Surender Sachdeva, Chairman, Sahodaya Schools Complex of Ahmedabad, said, "As the boards were introduced this year, students challenged themselves and worked very hard to face the new situation. It has been overall a good result."

Utkarsh Jindal with 98.4 per cent became the city topper and Delhi Public School, Bopal topper as well. At DPS, he was followed closely by Suvarna Saraswat who scored 98 per cent. Rushita Shah stood third with 97.4 per cent. At St Kabir School, of 251 students who appeared for the exam, 124 scored 90 per cent and above; in Udgam School for Children, of the 321 appeared, 91 students scored above 90 per cent.

Tip: Never get demoralised, focus on the moment
Despite scoring 98%, Suvarna was a little disappointed with her marks in Hindi and English. She now wants to pursue software engineering. “I had expected more marks in Hindi and English as I scored only 96 and 97 respectively. I am interesting in engineering as the fact of making life easier by innovation fascinates me.”

While Suvarna is into cycling and badminton, she continued with cycling even during her study time to de-stress herself.

Aarsh Pandey 
Result : 97.2% 
School: St.Kabir school 

Tip: Be consistent
For Aarsh Pandey, it was consistency in studies that helped him achieve this result. He says, “Studying at last moment does not help. Consistecy throughout the year matters. I was always regular with studies and never focussed on number of hours I spent studying and it really helped me.”

Aarsh, son of an ISRO scientist destressed himself by playng tennis. He says, “I am into sports, especially cricket and tennis. I played tennis to relieve from stress.”

Mrudani Hada 
Result : 97.2% 
School: Udgam School for Children  

Tip: Take good breaks during study hours
With 97.2%, Mrudani also wants to study engineering. Speaking about her result, she said, “I had expected between 95 to 97% and hence I am very happy with my result. I play Piano and I love art and craft. During my study breaks, I used to play Piano to relieve stress. I think students who would be appearing for board exams should take regular breaks and relax themselves to be able to focus more on studies.”

Utkarsh Jindal 
Result : 98.4% 
School: DPS, Bopal 

Tip: Focus only on NCERT books
For Utkarsh, topping the school was a dream come true. “I had expected 97% but this result was overwhelming. Referring to sample papers and focussing only on NCERT books helped me achieve this result. Since I am interested in programming, I want to become a software engineer.” I used to regularly play badminton, swimming and carom to relieve my stress.
