Bail to former Rajasthan home minister Gulabchand Kataria in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case seems to have come as a setback for CBI. In a bid to plug all loopholes in its investigation, the investigating agency is now probing deeper into the murder of Sohrab’s wife Kauserbi. Her death has been linked with that of her husband.

Based on the call records, the CBI found that she was killed in the evening on November 29, 2005. To know about her death and disposal of her body, the CBI had scrutinised call records of accused cops – DG Vanzara, NK Amin, Balkrishan Chaubey and VA Rathod.

Sources said that Kauserbi was killed somewhere between 4:45  pm and 5:30 pm at (then) the office of Gujarat Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Shahibaug. The CBI had found that she might have been tranquilised by Amin, also a physician.

Call record details acquired by CBI revealed that Amin, who was at the office of DCB that day, got a call on his mobile phone at around 4 pm from the landline phone of the office of DG Vanzara at ATS. Amin’s mobile phone tower connectivity reveals he reached the ATS office at around 4:45 pm.

However, his phone was switched off from 4:46 pm to around 5:10 pm. The CBI believes this was the time when he tranquilised Kauserbi, the sole witness of Sohrab’s fake encounter.

Police inspectors Chaubey and Rathod too got calls from Vanzara’s office at the same time. The mobile location of Chaubey revealed that he started from Gandhinagar, while Rathod’s location was spotted at Ranip. The CBI found that Rathod had purchased wood to burn Kauserbi’s body at Illol village in Sabarkantha district. The investigating agency had found that the mobile tower connectivity of all these four cops shows that they reached Illol in the night of November 29.

However, their phones were switched off throughout the night and were switched on only the next morning.
