Catch all 21,000 absconding accused: Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday directed the home department police to capture 21,000 accused persons, who are on the run. In a special meeting with the department, he released the instruction to the police that they should all be under police custody soon.

The CM's office released a press communique informing the media on the Chief Minister's directions. The CMO also mentioned that there are over 21,000 accused persons in different cases, who have fled from custody and are hiding to avoid legal consequences.

The home department following the CM's instructions, has moved to form a team of officers in each of the districts of state during the months of November and December. The teams will comprise of police officers from the squads of district superintendent of police, local crime branch, inspector general of concerned range, research and raid cell, Anti-Terrorist Squad, and the state crime branch. The team will be equipped by CCTV cameras network, mobile tracking facilities and other to detect the absconding persons.

The CM also gave the instruction to the director general of police to conduct a review made for each district during the months of November and December with the S.P, L.C.B, Range, RR Squad, ATS and State Crime Branch wherein they will be equipped with Mobile Application and CCTV network to arrest the criminals. The CM has also directed to conduct a quarterly review meeting with the DGP for the same.

The sensitive Chief Minister has taken this decision in order to ensure a safe and secure Gujarat thereby ensuring the welfare of its citizens.

A senior official from the home department said on condition of anonymity, "This is an exercise to control the anti social elements during the polls. It is feared that such elements may try to disturb the atmosphere when polls are closer. On the other hand, those who act against government and are on flee also will face the music."
