By-poll results are a trailer of 2019: Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda

Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda said that results of Thursday's Lok Sabha and assembly by-elections, in which the BJP suffered losses, was a curtain-raiser for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

"The winds of change have started blowing in the country. Voters in several states have shown their place to arrogant leaders of the BJP. The Congress will also win in the upcoming assembly elections of Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. People will also throw out the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections," Chavda told reporters.

The BJP lost the politically important Kairana Lok Sabha and Noorpur assembly seats in UP, while also suffering reverses in a couple of other seats.

The Congress and other Opposition parties gained at BJP's cost.

Chavda described the reduction of 1 paise in fuel prices as a "joke played on people by the BJP government", and said that the people would teach a lesson to the party in the coming elections.
