If you are planning to beat the summer heat by sleeping in the cool breeze on your terrace at night, be careful. For, your home could be the next target of burglars. Police have found that the owners of houses where most of the break-ins have occurred recently had been sleeping either on the terrace or outside.

So, the police concluded that most of the burglaries or thefts took place sometime between 2 am and 5 am when the residents were fast asleep.

Talking to dna, S G Bhati, the joint commissioner of police, Sector 2, said it had been found that people do not even lock their houses. “Police patrolling is carried out between 12 am and 6 am.

But the police cannot remain present at the society all the time. The residents, too, have to be aware of their security,” said Bhati.

House breakers or burglars usually target places where people are seen on the terrace. Talking to dna, a police officer at the detection of crime branch (DCB) said there are few gangs of house breakers, which target such houses as they can easily break in and escape with cash.

The DCB, however, has not even arrested a single such house breaker in the last few months.

And, most of the thefts that occurred were in the last one month when the mercury rose.

However, talking about the gangs that target such houses, Bhati said gone are the days when the actual organised gangs used to target houses with no owners in it. “Nowadays, even two locals are enough to burgle such houses,” he said.
