Brace for major road blocks on International Yoga Day

Around 2.5 lakh people are expected to converge at GMDC ground on June 21.

While lakhs of people will take up various poses on International Yoga Day, the mega celebration will pose a pain for several other citizens.

Around 2.5 lakh people are expected to converge at GMDC ground on June 21. The event, to be inaugurated by CM Vijay Rupani and BJP president Amit Shah, will be held at five grounds that are connected to the main GMDC ground.  The traffic police have made arrangements to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Around 6,000 policemen will be deployed for the event.

Several roads to turn into no-vehicle zone 

There will be a nine-hour block (3am to 11am) on June 21 on roads within a radius of four km and which connect to the GMDC ground. A total of nine routes have been blocked. The roads will be barricaded and traffic diverted to alternative routes. Only vehicle of participants, Fire Brigade vehicles, and ambulance and government vehicles will be allowed to use the roads.  

Sudhir Desai, in-charge JCP of traffic, said, “We have made arrangements in such a way that people will not face any trouble. During the block, we will allow people if they have a genuine reason.”

Parking for participants 

More that 3,500 buses carrying participants as well as private vehicles are expected. For the buses, parking arrangement has been made near GMDC ground, while eight parking bays will be provided for the private vehicles.
