A Gujarat BJP parliamentary board meeting was held on Thursday to scrutiny the political equations for local government bodies polls. The meeting was held at party's state headquarter Shri Kamalam near Gandhinagar and the leaders showed the concern over the rural bodies.

As many as 1,423 village panchayats, 75 nagar palikas, 17 taluka panchayats and 2 district panchayats in Gujarat are going for polls on February 4 and the counting will be held on February 6. The Gujarat BJP is trying to draw as many as possible seats towards uncontested fight on different bodies in rural areas for Panchayat polls.

On condition of anonymity, a senior BJP leader said, "The show of BJP in rural areas in assembly polls have increased the tension in party. The party is planning to draw maximum seats towards uncontested fight in Panchayat polls. Samras village panchayat will also get BJP-supported bodies. Our observers and Vistarak (outreach workers) have been trying to make this possible."

"Another concern is for Nagarpalika. The party analysed the latest assembly poll results and voting pattern. This indicated that some of the voters in the semi-urban areas have showed soft stance for Congress. We are trying to keep the votebank intact in this area so that BJP retains the Nagarpalika (municipalities) in state," added the leader.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and BJP chief Jitu Vaghani were present in the meeting. "The party has decided to field young faces as candidates to avoid the feeling of anti-incumbency among the voters. This will also boost the morale of young cadre of party as they also will get the chance to represent BJP in government bodies. We have gone through the list of panels prepared by our observers for probable candidates in different government bodies," added the BJP leader.
