Financial transactions close to Rs 25,000 crore are estimated to have been affected in Gujarat because of the two-day strike by employee unions of banks, post, insurance as well as other Public Sector Units (PSUs). Representatives of trade and commerce have also complained that their transactions have taken a hit during the strike.
Staff of Reserve Bank of India protested and shouted slogans on Wednesday in front of RBI head quarters in the state, while ASHA workers carried out a rally near Gita Mandir area. Janak Raval, general secretary of Maha Gujarat Bank Employees Association (MGBEA), spearheading the strike in Gujarat confirmed this. Nandu Deshpande, general secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in Gujarat informed that thousand ASHA workers took out a rally near Gita Mandir. In addition to employees of banks, employees of insurance, post, defence, insurance, railways, telecom, and other departments have also participated in the strike.
On the other hand, local business leaders complained that two-day strike has disrupted financial transactions. Gujarat Traders Federation president Jayendra Tanna said that the strike has derailed financial transactions. Gaurang Bhagat, president of Maskati Market Kapad Mahajan said that the strike has come when there is an overall slowdown in the market and thus amplified the impact of slowdown.
