The AMC continued to be at the receiving end of the high court's ire in connection with a petition about the poor state of roads in the city.

A division bench headed by Justice MR Shah directed that top AMC officials be present before the court during the next hearing which is scheduled for April 11.

The court's directions came after the petitioner's lawyer Amit Panchal made a representation that the condition of roads had not improved and that internal roads once dug up did not get repaired for a long period of time. The petitioner's counsel said that the civic body appeared to be serious about the matter only in court when in reality the situation on the ground had not changed despite the court's intervention. As an example of the civic body's lackadaisical attitude in the matter, the counsel pointed out the fact that officer responsible for the poor condition of roads had only been issued a notice and no progress was made in the case thereafter.

The court observed that merely blacklisting certain contractors did not mean an end to the investigation in the matter and also sought to know the action taken against those responsible for the condition of the road. The court warned the civic body that it was giving the AMC the last chance to file an affidavit stating what actions it took against the person responsible for the poor condition of roads. It warned that if appropriate action was not taken against the responsible officers it would give the investigation in the case to the Anti Corruption Bureau.

The court also expressed displeasure at the fact that the work in areas was TP was finalised had also not started. It should be noted that earlier both the state as well as the civic body had in an undertaking stated that areas where a TP had been finalised, road work had already begun.
