Ever since the civic body initiated auctioning properties of the property tax defaulters, the rigid debtors have started paying the taxes.

In a first, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had identified 21 properties to levy dues. Ever since the civic body announced to auction property of defaulters, the defaulters are now coming forward to pay their dues. Last week, when one of the defaulters who couldn't make the payment, his property was on board to be auctioned, however no bidder turned up and now the AMC owns that commercial property.

The three other commercial properties whose dues were Rs 23.71 lakh (Tube Traders) and Rs 18.30 lakh (Maruti Traders) have now been cleared. However, an officer informed that Maruti Trader have paid Rs 10.30 lakh and are yet to pay Rs 8 lakh, which they would clear by Wednesday.

Gujarat mills which is set to be auctioned on Thursday has dues of about Rs 2.60 crore pending to be cleared. The officials inform that the owners are running pillar to post to save their property being sold off. "They will be clearing 50 per cent of the dues. But since there is a fund crunch and family dispute we believe they might be not able to pay their dues," said an official.
