Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu had financed many real estate projects in Gujarat as well as in other parts of the country. He also acted as a silent partner to land developers in getting their files cleared by various government departments through his contacts. Asaram had even provided financial help to several ministers and politicians.

These shocking details came to light during the interrogation of Asaram’s accountant, Vani Kaushik. According to Vani, donations received by Asaram’s ashram were routed to many renowned realtors and politicians. Based on all this, the Surat police are planning to a lodge a separate complaint.

Earlier in his statement to the police, Vani had said that donations received by Asaram’s ashrams were invested in share markets, real estate and foreign countries. The new revelations will increase problems for Asaram and his son Narayan Sai. Besides, the ashrams might come under the tax department’s scanner.

Surprised by Vani’s statement, the Surat police have not decided to register cases of money laundering and illegal money transactions against the father-son duo. Police are also investigating those people, who are said to have taken financial help from them. It is believed that the police might interrogate them soon.

Meanwhile, the court extended the date of giving judgment on Sai’s bail application to Thursday as both sides have finished their arguments in the case.
