A head constable with the Amreli police who is believed to be the man Friday of arrested Amreli Superintendent of Police, Jagdish Patel, may have possessions of Rs 90 lakh, a part of the money that is missing in the Bitcoin case.

Sources close to the CID said the head constable, Dharmendra Pawar, who is believed to be close to Patel, had also played a key role in the entire saga.

He has been absconding since the case began. However, this is the first time that him being in possession of some of the missing money in the case has emerged.

Those in the know of the case said that Kirit Paladiya, a key conspirator in the case and business partner of the original complainant Shail-esh Bhatt, had earlier (before the kidnapping related to bitcoin took place) floated a ponzi scheme under the garb of cryptocurrency investment.

The scheme invited people to invest their bitcoins with him.

He promised a return of 4% return per day. "Many people had invested their bitcoins in his scheme but one fine day the scheme went bust and many lost their money. Investigations revealed that the money so collected (through the ponzi scheme for bitcoin) amounting to Rs 90 lakh may have been given to Pawar," said sources.

Sources said Pawar had assisted Paladiya in running the scheme.

The role of Pawar came out during the interrogation of Paladiya.

It should be noted that both Paladiaya and Shailesh Bhatt had been kidnapped by Amreli cops and bitcoins worth Rs 12 crore extorted from them. Patel and Amreli police inspector Anant Patel, whose is among the accused, were later suspended by the government.

Bhatt, in his complaint, had accused former MLA from Dhari, Nalin Kotadiya, of being involved in the kidnapping.

It should be noted that Kotadiya has so far refused to respond to the two summons sent to him. Police had on Saturday questioned his wife who claimed that she does not know where he has been since last week.

The agency plans to issue an arrest warrant against Kotadiya if he fails to respond to the final summons which will be issued to him on Monday.

The CID also plans to seek assistance from the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax department for any lead into the illegal money transfers in the case. This, the cops believe, will help them to crack the case.
