The twitterati are not known to back off from a juicy bone. After it was revealed that questions for Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah’s Yuva Townhall on Sunday in Ahmedabad would be pre-selected, users started posting uncomfortable questions on the social media platform.

Shah is scheduled to hold a dialogue with young voters in poll-bound Gujarat.

Some of the questions could put Shah in a spot, asking about regularising jobs for contractual employees, transfer issues, due benefits, and other issues with the Gujarat state government.

The episode is reminiscent of the embarrassment Chief Minister Vijay Rupani face at a Twitter townhall when faced with almost similar questions.

For Shah, therefore, the Gujarat unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, which is organising the programme, isn’t taking any chances, and is pre-deciding which questions will make to Shah.

“It is natural that people would take the freedom to ask any question to BJP chief when he has invited them for, but the party will take care that no question comes during live programme which will embarrass Shah,” said Dr Rutvij Patel, president of the Gujarat BJYM, conceding that the questions will be screened before being posed to Shah.

The Gujarat BJP Yuva Morcha has been also encouraging the party’s young workers to ask as many questions as many as possible.

“It was very embarrassing moment for CM Vijay Rupani when there was an onset of awkward questions and he was forced to stop the programme half the way. The senior party leaders have taken enough care for Shah’s programme and they have been guiding the organisers,” a senior BJP leader said, on condition of anonymity.

However, the party has not consulted the government on replies regarding state government issues so that Shah can answer them with proper references. Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said, “Amitbhai is an active leader and knows every policy of Gujarat government very well. He does not need to be given any briefing or reference for any question related to government and he is capable of answering those through his own understanding.”
