The BJP national president Amit Shah has already announced that his party's mantra will be to win the hearts of OBCs in Gujarat polls. As the OBC communities in Gujarat constitutes around 62 per cent of total vote share, the party has been focusing on about 146 communities that come under this category. To address the community, Shah will arrive in Gujarat on Monday and will hold a convention for OBCs at Fagvel village of Kheda district.

Around 50,000 people are expected to gather to listen to the message of BJP's strategist at Fagvel which has the dominance of Thakor community. This community has the second largest share in OBC community in Gujarat after Koli community. Moreover, Thakors are the committed vote bank of Congress in its fort of central Gujarat where BJP has been trying to create a dent. This is also a region where Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki, former CM Madhavsinh Solanki and other influential leaders of Congress come from.

A senior leader of BJP said, "Congress is strong in central Gujarat and to achieve the target of 150, it is necessary to acquire more seats in this region. When Patel community has gone upfront against BJP in the state, BJP is highly dependent on OBC community in the state now. Not only Thakor but people from other communities including Koli, Chaudhary and others also will be invited to Shah's public meeting."

"PM Narendra Modi's proposed OBC commission will be the major issue which Shah could raise here, as Congress has opposed the same in parliament and this can become a tool for Shah to placate Congress committed communities taking them into favour of BJP," added the leader.

Besides this, Shah will also hold a convention with cooperative sector leaders in Gujarat on Monday evening at Gandhinagar. This convention was scheduled in July along with his North Gujarat region rally but was postponed then following to the floods in the north Gujarat region.
