Amdavad's got 95% of its average rainfall already

Met has issued a heavy rain warning in some places of Gujarat in the next 36 hours.

The city recorded around 9 mm of rainfall on Thursday. Showers began in the early afternoon and continued till evening. Although, there were no reports of heavy rains, intermittent showers continued throughout the day. East and south zone recorded the highest rainfall of 10 mm and the city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.3 degrees Celsius, three degree below normal. It is expected to get a few showers on Friday, too, adding to the prospect of a wet weekend ahead.

Across the state, over 72 talukas in 23 districts recorded rain on Thursday. The Met department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall for almost all the districts of the state with a heavy rain warning in some places of Gujarat in the next 36 hours. As per GSDMA, the city has received 95% of its average rainfall of 769 mm so far, while the state has received 75% of its average rainfall of 798 mm.

Meanwhile, showers continued in Surat and South Gujarat region on Thursday. Pardi taluka of Valsad district recorded four inches of rain in just four hours, while other areas of the district, too, received good showers. 3.66 lakh cusecs of water was discharged from Hathnoor dam in Maharashtra with Tapi catchment area receiving good rainfall in the past 24 hours. 

To deal with the heavy inflow, officials increased the outflow at Ukai dam. 12 doors of the dam were opened by seven feet to empty the dam. Inflow at Ukai dam was recorded 51,693 cusecs, while the outflow was at 1,95,896 cusecs. Water level at dam was 330.80 cusecs. Due to the downpour, four families lost their homes at Uchchal taluka of Tapi district. One of houses was built under Indira Awas Yojana.

Valsad taluka recorded 2.5 inches of rain in four hours, while Umbergaon taluka recorded 2 inches in the same time period. Total rainfall in the district on Thursday was 432 mm with Pardi and Umbergaon talukas recording 111 mm of rainfall between 7 am to 6 pm.

Except Valsad district, all the other areas of South Gujarat region recorded nominal showers on Thursday.

While Surat city recorded just 3 mm of rainfall, Umarpada taluka of Surat district recorded maximum 40 mm of rainfall. On the other hand, Mandvi taluka recorded 20 mm, while Mahuva and Mangrol talukas recorded 6 mm and 8 mm respectively. Bardoli, Choryasi and Palsana talukas recorded 6 mm each. Kamrej and Olpad recorded 3 mm and 5 mm of rainfall respectively.
