Amdavadi folk singer dies after jeep rams into BRTS corridor

The incident took place near Chandkheda on Wednesday evening.

Garba venues lost a golden voice on Tuesday when a freak road mishap claimed the life of female folk singer, Hemangi Trivedi.

The artiste died on the spot after the jeep, she was travelling in, lost control and rammed in to a BRTS track, said Chandkheda police. Trivedi, 42, a resident of Kailash apartment in Vejalpur, was associated with Navratri-related singing assignments.

“According to her relatives, Trivedi had gone to Mehsana on Tuesday to meet some  Navratri organizers and finalize a deal for the upcoming season. She hired a Toofan shuttle jeep to return to Ahmedabad late evening” said MM Parmar, police sub inspector of Chandkheda.

According to police, majority of the passengers got off near Chandkheda gam.

“When the jeep reached near Shiv Shakti nagar at around 8:45pm, the driver lost control and rammed the vehicle in to the BRTS corridor after breaking the metal railing,” said Parmar. The sudden impact with cement and steel structure severely damaged the front portion of the jeep.

“Since Trivedi was sitting on the front seat, her head and face got smashed, killing her on the spot,” said Parmar. After the accident, the jeep driver fled the spot. Based on the registration number of the vehicle, cops have started investigation.
