AMC to prepare Standard Operating Procedure for disaster management

Until now, Amdavadis SOS call during natural calamities like flood or earthquake was taken care by AMC fire and emergency department, while other departments engineering, estate, central workshop and health  remained clueless about their responsibility during such emergency.

This forced the AMC to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for disaster management fixing role and responsibility of each of its concerned department.

The existing system, where AMC’s fire and emergency department has a standard laid down procedure for attending any rescue or emergency call, has been ineffective. And this new system gives a clear picture to every department about their functions and role. Currently, the control room provides information about any incident and random action is taken against it.

At times, AMC’s response is slow owing to confusion or lack of information. However, with implementation of SOP, the civic body aims to get rid of any confusion or delay. As per the new system, operating procedure has been divided in different sections like pre-monsoon activities, warning, and rescue & relief.

The civic body is in advanced stage of compiling the procedure and after discussing it with the municipal commissioner, the SOP would be finalised.
