For the recovery of crores of rupees in property tax, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to organise Lok Darbar (public hearing) in May in all zones across the city. Sharing more details about the initiative, Standing Committee Chairperson Pravin Patel said: "We have decided to organiae Lok Darbars for tax recovery during the standing committee meeting. There is more than Rs 2,000 crore of tax pending with occupiers."
Most of the tax defaulters in city are owners and occupiers of shut mills. During the Darbar sessions, the civic body officials will negotiate with the defaulters and entertain their questions to work out a way to recover the dues. "We are expecting at least thousand crores in recovery from such meets. We will first try out the model at zonal level, and depending on its success, we will organize it at ward levels too," added Patel.
Speaking about the proposed bullet train, Patel said the state government had updated the civic body about the upcoming project. The government will acquire more than two lakh square meter of land for the ambitious project. Several plots of land mostly located in Acher, Chenpur, Ghodasar, Kali and Vinzol will be affected. The Revenue Department is looking after the land acquisition process, and the civic body has been notified about the same.
