The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s newly appointed chairman of the Standing Committee, Amul Bhatt, on Tuesday said the civic body would fix cave-ins within 12 hours of being reported.

"There won't be road damages this monsoon," said Bhatt. "If there are any cave-ins, we will fix it in 12 hours. Our priority will be to fix the roads as soon as possible so that people don't suffer much. In case of excessive rainfall, we will use pumping machines to drain the water from the streets. For pockets near Kharicut canal, we have placed 45 pumps and cut illegal drainage connections. Things will be smoother this monsoon."

The office bearers of the civic body took stock of the pre-monsoon action plan on Tuesday. This monsoon, the local elected representatives will get hourly weather updates. The AMC has asked the police department to be on standby for traffic diversion in case of heavy rainfall and traffic jams,.

The civic body will work with the Traffic Police Department, State Irrigation Department and Torrent Power to control any situation in a short span of time. They have also set up 20 control rooms, which are equipped with 33 wireless sets. There will be wireless sets even at underpasses as well.
