AMC to buy 300 vehicles to lift garbage, will punish litterers

After removing the bins, the civic body is getting lots of complaints about garbage being dumped

After removing community bins and garbage bins from the roads, the civic body is not going to purchase around 300 vehicles to left the garbage. The civic body has lifted around 1,000 community bins as per the guideline of Swachh Bharat Mission, the spots have become nuisance point.

After removing the bins, the civic body is getting lots of complaints about garbage being dumped. Several such complaints were raised by the councillors too, during the standing committee meeting held on Friday.

"We have decided to buy 300 more vehicles which can carry up to 3 tonnes of garbage. The vehicles will carry the garbage which is not covered under the door to door collection, but will lift from the source," said Amul Bhatt.

"We have received several complains where the garbage has not been lifted. Hence, we have come out with this solution. Also, the vehicles will fine those who are littering under the public health bye-laws," added Bhatt.

At present, there are different types of vehicles in the city for lifting the garbage.

There are around 900 vehicles, purchased last year for the door to door garbage collection. There are different compactor cum trucks, then several vehicles to carry garbage from the Refuse Transfer station to dump yard.
