AMC inspector, surveyor held for accepting Rs 50,000 bribe

Two employees of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) were caught taking bribe of Rs50,000 by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday.

ACB Ahmedabad said that Mukesh Parmar, a surveyor in AMC, and Mayank Mistry, working as estate inspector in the corporation, were arrested while accepting the bribe from a land owner.

The complainant had approached the agency after the duo demanded Rs 50,000 from him before the final survey of a plot of land owned by him in Vatva.

ACB said in a release that the two AMC employees were caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in his cloth printing unit in Vatva. Both have been booked under various provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act by Ahmedabad ACB.

ACB data showed that bribery cases registered by it more than doubled in 2018. From 148 cases in 2017, the number shot up to 323 in 2018.

Employee, son caught taking Rs 5000 bribe

Shamal Patel, a class III employee in the Prant office in Prantij in Sabarkantha, and his son Kuldeep were arrested by ACB on Monday for accepting bribe.

Accused had demanded Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant in lieu of making a land related entry in government records. ACB officials caught Kuldeep red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of his father.
