Officials and employees of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Sunday participated in a massive drive to create awareness about segregation of wet and dry waste. They visited public gardens, bus stops and residential colonies to mobilize citizens to separate wet and dry waste, a move, they expect, will improve Ahmedabad's ranking in national Swachchh Survekshan 2019.

AMC had said that henceforth the it will not accept mixed waste. AMC Commissioner, Vijay Nehra termed the drive to seek participation from citizens as unprecedented. According to estimates 40,000 persons including officials, employees, corporators, volunteers of NGOs, and famous personalities joined the campaign.

"We plan to reach all wards, all societies, all homes – about 14-15 lakh of them - in a single day. We want people to segregate dry and wet waste at source itself. The drive is carried out in 250 gardens, AMTS and BRTS buses. We believe all citizens want an Ahmedabad free of traffic problems, and waste. We are confident of getting full support of all Amdavadis," said Nehra.

Some of the councillors said on condition of anonymity that they are not participating in door to door drive.

In evening a rally was held for door to door waste collection in all zones. Mayor Bijal Patel flagged off a vehicle rally at Chandkheda later.
