AMC gears up for monsoon

The AMC says that 20 control rooms would function across the city, including one main control room, during this monsoon

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) held a meeting on Wednesday to review their monsoon preparedness. The meeting was attended by post holders of the civic body who discussed pre-monsoon action plan.

Giving details about the civic body's action plan, Mayor Gautam Shah said: "We will make sure that citizens do not suffer during this monsoon. We will wrap up all the road and digging work by the end of the month. We have initiated cleaning of 42,111 catch-pits, and in the first round, 38,886 pits have been cleaned. By June 15, the remaining catch-pits will be cleaned."

The AMC said that 20 control rooms would function across the city, including one main control room, during this monsoon. They also revealed that there are 41 outlets in the Sabarmati River to release the storm water. The civic body has decided to rope in 302 machine to deal with extensive fogging.

The AMC has made extensive plans to control and prevent diseases related to the rains. To prevent vector breeding site, the AMC has made a list of 647 construction sites where regular checking will be done and Rapid Diagnostic test of all the labourers will be conducted at regular intervals. Moreover, the Health Department has released guppy fish in permanent water bodies and treated the temporary ones with chemicals.
