AMC collects fafda, jalebi samples ahead of Dusshera

A day before Dusshera festival, health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has started collecting samples of fafda and jalebi from different food joints across city.

"To ensure healthy food being served to people, we conduct food sample collecting drive round the year. During festivals, we collect samples that the people mostly consume," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.

On Friday, the team collected 28 different sample of fafda, jalebi and oil from different establishment. "We have collected samples from the famous joints where long queues of people are seen to get the hot jalebi and fafda," said Rakesh Gamit, food safety officer of AMC.

"In the sample of fafda, quality frying oil should be look after and one can use the same oil thrice. For jalebis, the makers use artificial sweetener. Generally, saccharine is used to make Jalebis more sweet which is prohibited," added Gamit.

Sample were taken from the famous joints like Oswal, Lakshmi Gathiya, Chandra Vilas restaurant, Induben Khakhraval etc.

Result of the taken samples will be out after two weeks.
