She was brought to Ahmedabad from Rajkot in December 2017 when she was around 3 years old. She is the only white cat in the city zoo and there is no name for her yet. She is 'anamika', – the one who doesn't have any name!

Two exotic animals were brought from Rajkot, a lioness about four years old. Her name is Shreya! On the other hand, Ahmedabad gives them quite a few exotic birds and reptiles like parakeets, Indian cobras, Indian python, pelicans etc.

The zoo authority firmly believes in Stratford-upon-Avon's child Shakespeare who once said 'What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any name would smell as sweet'. "After a long time, we have a white tigress in our zoo. A white tiger that was brought to the zoo in 1992 died in 2004. She is the first one since then," said Kamala Nehru Zoological Park director RK Sahoo. "We haven't named her yet. As we have friends of zoo scheme, we are considering that who-so-ever will adopt her will give her a name," added Sahoo.

Interestingly, when she was in Rajkot she was called Jummy.

"We have named white tiger baby – Jummy and Lion baby – Shreya. We have also done their microchip identification and both of them have numbers," said Banchh Nidhi Pani, Rajkot Municipal Commissioner.

According to Sahoo, this is a kind of experiment and naming kind of practice is among humans. "We want to keep her in a comfortable milieu. By giving her a name, people will start using it. It will disturb her," remarked Sahoo. "Noticeably, she likes Kankaria and is eating more food than required. When we brought her here, her diet comprised 3-4 kilo food. We gave her more, almost double than her intake, and she could even finish that," said Sahoo.

ANIMAL-FRIENDLY

Friends of zoo scheme allow citizens to adopt any animal by paying annual food and maintenance expenditure. The scheme was launched in 2008. Both the babies have not yet adopted to the new place and AMC is looking for their guardians.
