Due to the ongoing traffic drive in the city, people are sceptical about leaving their vehicle unattended on the road. DNA spoke to various stores lining the 100-feet-Ring Road, where the street and parking management drive was conducted on Monday. A tailoring shop owner, whose establishment is near Prahladnagar garden, said, "I have started sending my boys who park their vehicles outside my shop, to meet the customers somewhere on the road and deliver the garments, or I try to deliver it to their homes. This is because many a time, the customers do not get parking space nearby and they have to wait inside their cars until I send their clothes."
Ronak Thakkar, who runs a store called Shree Satyanarayan Mukhwas and Dry Fruits near Shyamal crossroads, said, "We have started home-delivery service from this week. The reason is that authorities have become strict about parking rules. Since we do not want to lose out on customers because of that, this is our only option."
When DNA asked AK Singh, Commissioner, Ahmedabad city police, about the sustainability of the model, he said, "This drive is not about coercive enforcement only. People have experienced a rare taste of success in collaborative behaviour. The drive will be propelled by this positivity and hence it will be perpetual."
City planners said that with the present drive, one can actually see the kind of encroachment each and every shop had made and now roads look much wider.
