Amidst the social media being criticized for spreading fake news, a number of education experts feel that the medium is great to spread the innovative ways to teach Math and Science to children.

Experts from various fields gathered at National Teachers Science Congress held in Ahmedabad on Friday and discussed the development of technology and emerging trends to empower teachers.

This is the 9th edition of NTSC, which was held at the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) where nearly 270 teachers from across the country presented papers on teaching methodology. The event provides a platform for teachers to share their ideas and new experiments.

Addressing the teachers, keynote speaker Dr K Kasturirangan, known for steering the Indian Space Research Programme for over nine years, said: "We make educational programmes for the audience, which is not relevant to them. Rather than introducing or designing a programme for the entire country, there should be district level short-clips to share innovative ways of teaching Math and Science. There is a need for district-level networks to intensify use of technology in the education system."

BS Bhatia, who worked with ISRO for 35 years, said there is a lot of opportunity in fields like biotechnology, food processing, herbal products, agriculture, nutritional security, organic products, water technology, wellness-well being science, climate science, etc.
