Ahmedabad police lodge three cases in clash between Dalits & Darbars

A clash broke out between two groups on Tuesday in the Dholka area of rural Ahmedabad. Members of the Dalit and Darbar community fought over using the suffix 'Sinh' after their name.

Police said, the incident took place after Maulik Jadav, 22, a Dalit resident of Dholka was threatened and beaten up by members of the Darbar community. Jadav had added 'Sinh' to his first name on his Facebook profile on May 10, which started the spat between the two communities. He claimed that he was first asked to remove it from his profile.

Members of the Darbar community did not stop at attacking Jadav; they attacked his house, too. This enraged the Dalit community, who then ransacked the properties of members of the Darbar community.

Police have lodged three cases , including atrocity, damaging property and attack in the matter and a section 144 of IPC was imposed, to prevent more than four persons from gathering at a spot.

Rajendra Asari, SP of Ahmedabad Rural, said, "We have deployed enough policemen at the spot and right now the situation is under control. There has been a cross-complaint lodged in the matter and we are investigating from both angles. At this moment, all the accused are absconding and we have put together a search team consisting of the local crime branch (LCB), special operations group (SOG), and local police officers to nab the culprits."
