A team of crime branch and Anti-terrorism Squad on Wednesday arrested two accused from Jamalpur area for possession of MDMA worth Rs 1.2 lakh.

The accused were identified as Mohammad Pathan (26), a resident of Shah-e-Alam and Nizamuddin Shaiyad (43), a resident of Kanpur. While searching the accused, 50 grams of MDMA, two mobile phones and cash was recovered. A total of the Rs 1.75 lakh worth of valuables and their vehicles were seized from the spot.

According to crime branch officers, they got specific information that two men were going to pass by the riverfront area located in Jamalpur on Wednesday and that they were in possession of a huge consignment of drugs.

Acting on the information, a team of ATS and crime branch was put on watch near the area and the two accused were nabbed from the spot while they were passing.

Later, the two were taken to the crime branch office for interrogation, during which the police found out that the two were drug peddlers and used to deal in small quantities.

The two were going to deliver the drugs to customers when they were caught by the cops.
