Here is some bad news for those, who are planning to hold cricket matches at the Sardar Patel Stadium of the city. For, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to increase the rent for playing matches at the venue. The decision was taken by the standing committee on Thursday.

Elaborating on the hike, chairman of the standing committee, Bhupendra Patel, said: “So far, we used to charge the same rent and deposit amount for cement pitch and turf wickets. However, during a meeting held on Thursday, we decided to hike the rates.

The rent and deposit amount for the cement pitch has been increased from Rs3,000 to Rs15,000 for business events and Rs10,000 for non business events.

Similarly, for the ground, the rent and deposit has been increased from Rs5, 000 to Rs6,000 for non business events and Rs10,000 for business events.” The committee also discussed about corporator’s budget amount, where presently the entire money is utilised for society development purpose.

“Instead of utilising the entire corporator’s budget, we thought of dividing the amount among the society residents as well. So, we are planning to take the majority percentage of the amount from the corporators and the remaining from the residents. Let us say in the ratio of either 70:30 or 80:20,” said Patel.

However, the proposal was not approved as the committee members wanted to wait for the corporators to know if they want to add something new to it. The proposal is likely to be approved during the next committee meeting.
