Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation says 6,748 stray bovines caught since April

The cattle nuisance and control department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has captured 6,748 cows since April. The civic body is working on the direction of the Gujarat High Court to capture abandoned cattle.

On an average, the team captures around 70 cows in a day. The HC has asked the civic body to immediately take stock of the situation.

Once the animal is caught, an FIR is filed and the animal is claimed by the owners. The authority is also seeking written assurance from the owners that they won't abandon the animals. Earlier, the authority had decided to impose criminal charges against the owners in case they leave their animals unattended. A case of culpable homicide against the owners.

The civic body, in August, had filed such cases against two owners. Gujarat HC is also in favour of taking strong action against violators.
