The 10-page resignation letter of DG Vanzara has come as a pleasant surprise for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The investigating agency had tried to make Vanzara reveal his political connections earlier. But the latter was adamant. Now, the CBI is gearing up for the second time to make him open up.

A CBI team has reached Ahmedabad to start the procedure of conducting a fresh round of questioning Vanzara. It is likely to quiz him in prison.

Sources in the CBI told dna that now when the suspended IPS officer has hinted about political intervention being a policy of the state government in his letter of resignation, the agency would soon grill him in that connection.

To start his interrogation, the CBI would question him for the Sohrabuddin and Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter cases with a list of his cell phone records, which point to Vanzara’s constant communication with former minister of state for home Amit Shah.

Sources said the CBI had earlier tried to make Vanzara talk after he was arrested in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. “He was given the example of another accused and suspended IPS officer GL Singhal,” a source said. He, however, was reluctant to open up then.

The CBI, which is now gearing up to get its score in connection with the four encounters, is confident of making a major breakthrough in Sohrab, Tulsi, Ishrat and Sadiq Jamal fake encounter cases. CBI is investigating all the cases in which the suspended officer is the prime accused.
