Ahmedabad: IOC did not issue bills for bitumen

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation then scanned 500 bills claimed by contractors, out of which 39 bills were sent to IOC for cross-verification

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) made a shocking revelation to the civic body saying that 40 bills for bitumen claimed under IOC were fake.

Most city roads were washed and damaged due to monsoons. It was later learnt by Jatin Patel, road and building committee chairman, that bills for bitumen to start repair work were being claimed using fake IOC documents.    

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) then scanned 500 bills claimed by contractors, out of which 39 bills were sent to IOC for cross-verification.  “The IOC has written back to us saying 39 bills are fake and not issued by them. Two contractors GP Chaudhary and Akash Infrastructure are involved in the scam. We have initiated a police case against them,” said a senior AMC official.

After Gujarat High court’s order of investigating 91 shoddy roads in city, out of which 20 fresh notices for the remaining 46 roads were served on Tuesday. Civic body, in this matter has sacked seven engineers.
