Ahmedabad gets respite but Deesa gets waterlogged

City got respite from rain on Sunday but some parts of Gujarat, particularly North Gujarat were not that lucky.

Heavy rain battered almost all districts of North Gujarat with Banaskantha bearing the maximum brunt of the rain fury. In Banaskantha, Deesa and Dantiwada received 305 and 235 mm of rainfall respectively, with most of the rainfall being recorded in a span of just 8 hours. Severe flooding was reported from these two districts with more than 50 people shifted to safer places in Deesa.

Over 40 instances of house collapse most of them kutcha houses were reported from various villages in Suigam and Wav taluka. Thanks to the rain, severe water-logging was reported from almost all areas of the taluka.

Across the state, 119 talukas in 23 districts received rain on Sunday with the highest being recorded at Deesa. The Met department has predicted light to moderate showers for the city and the state. Although for North Gujarat it has issued warning of heavy rainfall for the next 12 hours.

Interestingly, Kutch that had received the least amount of rainfall is now rain surplus. The region has recorded 163% of its 379mm of its average rainfall. The region has received 618mm of rainfall so far. In fact, the region has received the highest excess rainfall across the state.
