The day the nation observed the first anniversary of the gang rape and brutal assault of Nirbhaya, a woman lodged a complaint with the police accusing three men of raping her.
The trio took her to Agra on the pretext of getting her an assignment of beautician at the wedding of their relative there, police said. Two of them allegedly raped the woman on the way back and even threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke up.
According to a complaint filed by the 25-year-old woman of Ahmedabad with Ramol police on Monday, three men — Vastral resident Babu Karsan Desai, Rakesh Pandya and Habsi — had approached her in the last week of October. The trio claimed that they would pay her Rs10,000 for working as a beautician.
The woman agreed and left with them by road on October 29. On November 2, while returning from Agra and a village nearby, Desai brandished a knife while forcing himself on to her.
Following this, Desai and Pandya took turns to rape the woman at least four times near Ram Rajyanagar on the Narol-Naroda road in the moving car before dropping her off at her home on Vastral Road where she lives with her husband.
On November 6, Pandya visited her home and threatened Kalpana with dire consequences if she dared tell anyone about the incident. Member of the notorious Fracture Gang, he had jumped parole at the time and was arrested on December 4. He was then sent back to Sabarmati jail, where he is serving time for the murder of Pradip Don.
The woman mustered the courage to file her complaint knowing that Pandya was behind bars, said sources. The police have launched a hunt for Desai and Habsi, who have been charged with cheating and rape.
